Tragedy Strikes the ABC Helicopter Crew in Australia

It's with great sadness when anyone loses their life. For anyone working in broadcast media around the world this story resonates deeper. My mate Steve Rushworth, a former ABC Cameraman told me about this today. I never knew the guys personally but our thoughts go out to the families and colleagues of these three 'Good Blokes'. Tragedy strikes ABC Chopper filming team

Journalist Paul Lockyer, cameraman John Bean and pilot Gary Ticehurst died after their chopper crashed near Lake Eyre while they were working on news and feature projects in the region.

When you work in the Broadcast News Arena, there is a shared kindred spirit that all cameramen share. I spent over 13 years working in the TV News and features arena and the sense of team spirit is unrivaled when working closely like this.

For many of us we've spent time shooting from helicopters and while exhilarating , there's always that sense of danger in the back of your mind. I've also been fortunate to spend time in Australia and worked with many Great Aussie cameramen. Choppers are a part of daily life for the outback news coverage.
