Two Day Video Training Workshop

Next Date – 1st & 2nd December 2011 – SOLD OUT

New dates for 2012 coming soon

After many requests, we’re hosting a 2 day intermediate level shooting workshop for large sensor DSLR’s and camcorders like the Sony FS100 and the Panasonic AF101.

This is a practical, hands on shooting workshop.  We’ll be looking at shooting interviews, covering both sound and lighting, as well as framing and working in two camera set ups.

This is more than simply a classroom workshop.  We’ll be based at the London Filter Company but will be travelling out on location to shoot exterior interviews (weather permitting).  We’ll return to to review and group critique our shots and sequences.

The theme of this workshop is “Make The Ordinary Look Extraordinary”.

Workshop Components

Subjects covered will be:

  • Setting a frame and creating depth in your shots when shooting interviews
  • Choosing and illustrating different focal length lenses for interviews
  • Lighting interviews quickly using gear you can carry
  • Utilising ambient light on location as an extra light source
  • How to record sound and where to place the mic for maximum effect
  • Shooting B-Roll sequences to illustrate your interview narrative
  • Working with filters to control exterior light
  • Working with filters to enhance your interior interviews
  • Optimising your location shooting kit so you can go anywhere and get great results with a refined and compact shooting package

Workshop skill level

Intermediate – Students should have a good basic understanding of how to operate their gear and have confidence in basic skills.  At the end of day 2, you will have a new confidence in skillfully shooting, lighting and directing interviews and creating sequences so when you get to any location, you’ll have a solid process to work from.

You don’t hold back and I salute you for that. Your professional advice/teaching techniques and examples has positively ignited my confidence to take my filming career higher. Thank you for a course well worth it.”

This program offers a consistent expertise that I haven’t been able to find elsewhere. I’ve learned a practical understanding of cinematography and film making like never before and my footage proves it!

“As a beginner and coming in ‘from the cold’ I found this course a tremendous leg-up. Surely, one could find similar information on the web all over the shop, but this is a highly structured and well put together course by people who obviously know what they’re doing. Following the other tutorial DVDs from fstopacademy, this course has really given me more confidence in following this path. Warmest thanks and congratulations to you all, it was a well worth investment both from the content as from the price point perspective.  “
