The Wish You Were here...? series ran for 13 consecutive years in the UK and at it's peak would regularly get 13 million viewers watching. I was one of 8 cameramanen who worked on the series for 2 years. It was a dream job in many ways because I got to travel and shoot and we often went to amazing places.
The reality however was that regardless of the weather our job was to make everything look amazing.
This was a 4 day shoot with a lot of locations. Notice how almost everything is either B-Roll or presenter stand ups.
You work fast on these shows and you have to make the best of the light. Which doesn't always perform the way you'd ideally like it to.
Very satisfying stuff to film though - and I got paid too. It was the best job in the world.
we filmed the series on Digi-beta interlaced 16:9
